Bhiwani

History

Bhiwani is a city created on 22nd December 1972 in the state of Haryana, India. The city was named by a Rajput King Neem after his wife named Bhani. The Bhani word later changed to Bhiyani and subsequently to Bhiwani. It has around 442 villages with main towns being Charkhi, Loharu, Bewani Khera, Dadri and Tosham. The district headquarter is also situated in Bhiwani itself. It has been a prominent center of commerce since the time of the Mughals. It is known as city of temples and 'Small Kashi' of India as it has more than 300 temples in this city.

Transportation

Bhiwani junction is a major railway station in this region. It has three lines first line is towards northern side connecting cities like Hansi, Hisar, Sirasa, Bhatinda ,Ferozpur, Gurgaon and Delhi. The second line is towards southern side connecting Charkhi Dadri, Kosli, Rewari and Jaipur -Alwar and the third is towards Rohtak connecting to Delhi. Even by roadways it is well connected through state transport to all major towns in this region. To reach this place by flight connectivity from Delhi is most convenient.

Bhiwani being the spiritual place has numerous temples such as famous Sri Hari Har temple , Jain temple in Ranila Village, Maa Durga temple in Devsar Dhaam, Baba Jyotram Temple in Badala Village, huge "Shiv Temple" in Badala, Shiv mandir, Radha krishna Madir, Devi ka mandir etc.

Late Capt. Hawa Singh, the legendary boxer, helped establish the Bhiwani Boxing Club a boxing academy which has emerged as major centre of Indian Boxing. It is also known as India's boxing power house.

Bhiwani is a hometown of renowned Freedom Fighters and Social Reformers. Besides being a spiritual place of learning it has been a platform of regional politics too. Three chief ministers of Haryana have been from the same region they are Bansi Lal, Banarsi Dass Gupta and Hukum Singh. There were many freedom fighters such as Neki Sharma, Uma Sharma, Ram Kumar, Gokul Chand, Fateh Chand, Lala Vith, Lala Karanji, Diwan Chand, Lala Moda etc. from India's seeker of Freedom Society who took part in Bardoli Satyagraha held in1922 among them Neki Sharma was later honored as Haryana Kesri.

Education

A prestigious Birla Group has established the best Textile Research Institute, The Technological Institute of Textile and Sciences. There are about Four Engineering colleges, Four Degree Colleges, Three colleges of Education and a School of Nursing. The Haryana Shiksha Board is also situated in Bhiwani.

Chandigarh

Chandigarh the union territory of India and capital of two stated Punjab and Haryana. The word Chandigarh means "The fort of Chandi". The ancient temple of Chnadi is still worshiped here.

History of Chandigarh:

After, several discussions, it was decided to plan a new city. With this Chandigarh project began with personal interest of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Lal Nehru. Chandigarh was designed by French architect Le Corbusier. Initial planning was made by American architect Mathew Nowicki, but he died in 1950 and Le Corbusier was invited for the work. In 1961 the Chadigarh project completed.

Culture:

The culture of Chandigarh is not of its own, but it includes the qualities of all the neighboring states. It has the influences of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, UP and Bihar. The popular food is all kinds of North Indian food. In dressing trousers and shirts are popular for gents and salwar suits for ladies. Faridabad is an industrial town of Haryana located in 28 deg 25' 16" North Latitude and 77 deg 18' 28" East Longitude. The city is situated in between National capital Region of Delhi to the north; district Palwal on the south, Gurgaon to the west and Uttar Pradesh in the east.

History of Faridabad

In A.D. 1607 Faridabad was founded by Shaikh Farid who was the treasurer during the reign of Jahangir. The whole city is planned in semi-circle. The industrial area lies in the outskirts of the town. Shaikh Farid also built number of monuments includes the fort, mosque, tank etc.

The well organized town was planned with an aim of protecting the Delhi-Mathura Highway passing through it. Though it is a commercial place yet some of the attractions for tourists are very much there.

Nahar Singh Stadium

The nineteen year old Nahar Singh Stadium is a venue for one day International (ODI) cricket matches. The ground has a capacity to hold around 25,000 people. The stadium has the best facilities for cricket. Till date India has played five matches here. The stadium also houses a sports complex with state of art facilities for the sports like swimming, football etc.

Badhkal Lake

The lake in nearby Bedakhal village has a man-made embankment known as Badhkal Lake was once a must visit for visitors. The lake is surrounded by Aravalli hills. Annual flower show is held in every spring here. The lake has now dried and is a grazing ground for cattle and also a place for locals to play cricket.

Not too far from Badhkal Lake is the Peacock Lake. It is a picturesque destination.

Baba Farid's Tomb

The tomb of an eminent Sufi saint Baba Farid is popular pilgrim center for localiites. It is believed that Baba founded Faridabad and hence named after him.

Suraj Kund Tourist Complex and the Crafts Fair

Suraj Kund Tourist Complex near South Delhi is an idyllic picnic spot. The Suraj Kund Lake was built by Rajput King Surajpal Tomar. The lake is surrounded by rock cut steps, relics of Sun temple lie, beautiful fresh water pool 'Rajhans' - Siddha Kund whose water is said to have some therapeutic properties and a garden.

The lakeside hosts an annual handloom and handicrafts fair in February. Surajkund Crafts Mela is very popular among handicrafts lovers of across the boundaries. Location and History:

Some years back it was known as a sleepy and dull suburb of Delhi, but today it has become fastest developing town in India. About 15km. from Gurgaon, is the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, A variety of migratory birds can be spotted here around the natural lake. There are about 100 species of birds found here and the watch towers and a museum are also attractions for curious tourists. Winter is the best time for a visit to this sanctuary. The next tourist spot is the Damdama Lake which is a very pretty and eye catching spot. Another interesting spot is the Sheetala Devi Temple which has recently emerged as a popular tourist destination. Also known as 'Shakti Peeth' , it is a beautiful Hindu temple. Places to see in Hisar

Location and history

Earlier it was spelt as Hissar, it is a city based on Harappan culture in the state of Haryana. Founded by the great ruler, Firoze Shah Tughlaq, the name Hissar means fortress in the Turkish language. Hisar is said to have been connected with the ancient Vedic tribes. Today it is the main cotton industry of India. One of the most renowned educational institutions, the Hissar Agricultural Institute is located here. It was also called Hissar-e- Firoza which means the fort of Feroz. The town of Hisar is located about 162 km. from Delhi, the capital city of India.

Places of interest

The Palace of Feroze Shah and the fort built by him is a remarkable place of visit. There is an underground chamber and also a mosque within the palace. Nearby the mosque lies the site of the ruins of the Harappan civilization. The Palace has its own beauty and charm. The Lat Ki Masjid is an outstanding structure representing the Suljuk style but the grid style is taken from the Hindu culture. Its unique style of lithic pillar and square chamber makes it different from the other mosques. The mosque is a L-shaped mosque which is also a rare thing.

The Humayun�s mosque was also built by the emperor which is also a peaceful and charming place to visit. Another interesting place to visit is the Jahaz Kothi, a magnificent palace with a Mughlai touch. Jahaz Sahib was the Irish ruler who asked the mughal rulers to build a palace for him. The Gujri Mahal is a palace made of stone and it in ruins now but its raised platform which was used for social gatherings is still in good form. Just outside the fort is the Jain Pillar which is about 2ft. in height with the diamond shaped symbol on the top. It is regarded very sacred by the Jains.

There are still some ruins of the Harappan Civilization present in the form of three mounds at Banavali, Kunal and Agroha. All the three sites show some or the other important relevant facts of the Harappan Civilization. Banavali shows the ruins of an ancient township. The three stages of development of the civilization can be seen at Kunal and the reveals the discovery of coins in the third century B.C. the tomb of the great Sufi saint Pranpir Badshah is situated inside the Government College of Hisar is also a tourist site.

Kurukshetra is the Indian District of Haryana state covering 3.8% area of total area of the state or 1682 sq Km. the District is more known for his mythological and religious importance in the epic Mahabharata. The district lies in the plains of three rivers Saraswati, ghaggar and Markanda. The rivers make it to have alluvial soil. Its temperature is very hot around 45 degrees C in summers and markedly cold around three degrees C in winters. The district was created in the year 1973 separated from Karnal district. It's divided into two revenue sub states Pehowa and Thanesar and three tehsils. The district is famous as the Land of Gita. It's very pious place for Hindus and followers of lord Krishna.

Historical and religious importance:

As mentioned in the beginning Kurukshetra is the place of religious importance for Hindus and followers of Lord Krishna. According to the epic Mahabharata the 18 day battle of Mahabharata was fought in Kurukshetra. It is also called Dharmkshetra because the holy epic Gita was delivered here only before the battle. The district was named after Kuru the ancestor of Kauravas. As Mahabharata mentions that the descendants of Kuru were called Kaurav and descendents of Puru were called Pandavs. The battle was fought between Kauravas and Pandavas. Lord Krishna as charioteer of Arjun delivered the Karma theory to encourage him to fight the battle against Kauravas as it was a war of good and evil. Jyotisar is the place near Thanesar in district, which is believed as the exact place where Gita was delivered.

After Mahabharata, the Kurukshetra is also known for being a part of Harsha's empire which was a golden age and another historical importance of place is related to archaeology that painted greyware pottery has been found in the district.

Gurudwara 6th Pathshahi makes it as an important place for Sikh religion as well. Gurudwara was built to commemorate the visit of all Sikh Gurus to this place. This is one of very few places visited by all Sikh Gurus.

Tourism in Kurukshetra:

The places of interest can be divided into three categories in Kurukshetra as the district is not a newly born, but it has seen the ages. It can be divided into three categories: religious, archaeological and others.

Religious:- baan-ganga, jyotisar, sannihit tank, brahmsarovar, sthaneshvar mahadev, Bhishm kund, Bhandarkali temple, Nabhi kamal, Arnai temple, Saraswati tirath, Karan ka tila, Bir pipli, prachi tirath, etc. are the sites of religious importance which are mentioned in Mahabharata.

Sri Krishna museum, Gurudwara 6th Pathshahi, tomb of Sufi saint sheikh chaheli is other places of religious interest.

Archaeological:- the objectives of antiquarian interests have been found here. The remains of painted greyware pottery at the sites like Asthipura, Raja Karan ka Tila, Bhagpura, Bhor Saidan and Daulatpur.

Other:- Other places of interest are the colossal building worth 500 lac which can be seen from 5km, its science museum, modern kurukshetra university, engineering and medical college, big mandies, etc.

Manesar Tour

History and location

Manesar is fast developing industrial town in Gurgaon district of Haryana.It is situated in the lower Aravalli ranges. Panipat Tour

About 90 km from the capital city of Delhi and 135 km from the beautiful city of Chandigarh lays the ancient and historical city of Panipat. Panipat marked the turning point of Indian History by the three important battles fought here. Geography

Sirsa is a town located in the westernmost region of Indian State Haryana. Arnian Wali is 8 km from Sirsa having a mound measuring of10 feet high built on 4 acres of land. It has the remains of pottery of ancient history.

Sikanderpur is 12 km from Sirsa has two mounds 1 km apart measuring 30 feet high. One can find heavy sculptures on the stones slaps, such as specimens of temple, Lord Shiva, Indra etc. It also has the wares of medieval and pottery of Rang Mahal.

Suchan is 16 km from Sirsa also has the remains of pottery of Rang Mahal and medieval wares.

Mangiana is located 13 km from Mandi Dabwali has a mound of 15 feet high having the remains of ancients wares.

Saint Baba Bihari Samadhi is situated in a beautiful garden in the western part of Sirsa.

Dera Baba Sarsai Nath Temple; It is said that once Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan visited the Dera Baba Sarsai Nath for blessings for his ailing son. The emperor built a dome and donated land to the temple.The Dera has the temples of Shiva and Durga.
